Although Disney and Universal may have the world’s most famous parks, Six Flags is an impressive amusem*nt park company too!

And for that reason, you might be wondering “how long does a Six Flags Season Pass last?”.

After all, you’d certainly want to get your money’s worth if there’s a location near you!

To keep things easy (which I like to do when amusem*nt parking!), I’ve outlined everything you need to know about Season Passes.

From duration periods to perks, this handy guide is bound to come in handy!

Now let’s hop on a coaster and get going!

What is a Six Flags Season Pass?

Before I answer the question “how long does a Six Flags Season Pass last?”, I’ll fill you in on WHAT it is!

A Six Flags Season Pass gives you general access to Six Flags (and its associated water park, depending on the pass!).

It’s a bit like an annual pass from Disney or Universal, but it allows users to visit unlimited time during a SEASON.

Hence the name!

Sometimes this is from your purchase date until the beginning of September, and sometimes it’s for an entire year.

And as you might expect, this allows guests to enter free of charge – you don’t need to pay anything extra to get in!

As with many parks, there are some blackout dates applied to a few passes that can be a bummer.

But buying a more premium pass tends to remove that roadblock!

What Kind of Six Flags Season Passes Are There?

The available season passes for Six Flags are currently the Gold Season Pass, the Diamond, and the Platinum.

So, there are 3 in total.

They all offer different benefits which I’ll quickly run through.

Regular Season Passes (Gold)

Regular Season Passes offer entry from the date of purchase until the end of the season (usually September) but there may be blackout dates.

It’s also entirely possible that you’ll be denied entry to certain attractions at certain periods.

The main purchasers here will usually be summer park goers who don’t really need to access the parks past then.

It’s worth mentioning that access to the water park is NOT included with this pass.

You will get free general parking and a paltry 5% discount on food and merch (but it’s better than nothing!).

Platinum Season Passes

The next option you can go for is a Platinum Pass which is definitely a step-up from the typical Gold Pass.

This pass gives you access to Six Flags AND the water park from when you purchase your pass to the end of the year (not season!).

You’ll also get special rate tickets throughout the year and a Skip the Line Pass.

I’d say that this should be good enough for most visitors, but you get slightly more from the Diamond Pass if you visit a lot.

In terms of extra benefits, you can expect 15% off food and merch as well as free parking.

Diamond Season Passes

The Diamond Pass offers everything the Platinum Pass does but it also offers Priority Entry, Preferred Parking, and pretty decent discounts.

Not only will you get 50% off a Flash Pass, but you’ll also get a Season Drink Bottle!

Like the Platinum Pass, you’ll get access to Six Flags (and water parks!) from the date of purchase to the end of the year.

When it comes to additional discounts, you’ll get 4 Skip the Line Passes and 20% off food and merch.

I’d say the 5 specialty rate tickets aren’t bad either!

A Six Flags Season Pass usually lasts an entire year, but that depends on when you’ve purchased it and what pass you have!

Some season passes expire at the end of the calendar year AFTER they were purchased, while others expire on specific dates.

But it’s worth mentioning that OTHER Season Passes will be valid from the time it was purchased up until the end of that calendar year.

For that reason, it’s a great idea to purchase a pass in January if you’re a local as you’ll benefit way more.

To make that even clearer, that means if you buy a pass in January 2023, it’ll expire December 2023.

If you buy it in November, you’ll have to pay the same amount but certainly won’t benefit from it as much!

The differences usually come if you buy Gold Season Passes versus Platinum or Diamond Passes.

As you might expect, the validity periods for the more expensive passes will be more generous than the cheaper ones!

I’d say that it’s quite frustrating that the original Six Flags annual passes were removed in favor of season passes.

But that’s just the way the cookie crumbles, I’m afraid!

How to Check Your Season Pass for Six Flags

You’ll be able to use your login credentials to access the Season Pass portal at sixflags.com/pass.

These should be provided to you when you purchase your pass, but you can also contact Guest Relations if you run into any issues!

So, if you’re even remotely unsure about how long your Six Flags Season Pass lasts, you can check quite easily check!

It’s also worth mentioning that your pass will be valid IMMEDIATELY after you purchase it.

That’s a huge benefit if you’re planning to buy a pass and access the parks on the same day.

But it does mean you’ll benefit less if you buy a more expensive pass and don’t plan on visiting the parks anytime soon.

What Are the Pros and Cons of Getting a Six Flags Season Pass?

As you can use Flexible Pay Plans to purchase a Season Pass, they’re a relatively good investment for most people.

Overall, I’d say that the main pros were that you get GOOD access to the parks across the year and you’ll generally save money.

If you’re a frequent visitor that is!

I also think that the more expensive season passes give you a better chance of accessing the parks during busy periods.

When it comes to the Gold Season Pass, I’d say it’s a little hit and miss. But it does pay for itself pretty quickly (within 2 or 3 visits for most!).

While it can be a decent purchase if you’re planning to go off-peak or take advantage of your pass during the summertime – it’s not perfect.

For a start, it expires in September and basically removes your chance of going to the parks over the Christmas period.

But it also comes with quite a few blackout dates that might be dealbreakers.

Overall, I’d say that anyone hoping to visit Six Flags several times a year would benefit from ANY Season Pass!

Are There Any Add-Ons for Season Passes?

There sure are!

You can add things like Flash Pass (for skipping lines!), dining plans, a Season Drink Bottle, and a Photo Pass.

I’d say that all of these things were skippable, but they certainly boost your in-park experience.

So, it’s entirely up to you!

I hope that this guide has helped to answer the question “how long does a Six Flags Season Pass last?”.
