Purpose of Lockwire and Safety Wire
Lock wire is an incredibly versatile safety tool. It is applicable in a wide variety of industries. Nuts, bolts, screws and other fasteners will loosen over time. Lock wire’s purpose is to prevent this loosening from occurring.
Lock wire’s secures two or more parts together and ensures the tightening of each fastener. It prevents loosening by counteracting it with additional tightening of the wire.
The typical method of lock wire installation installation consists of twisting two strands or wire together in a “Double Twist” formation. Single strand installation is more common in applications with closely-spaced, geometric patterns. The max number of fasteners depends on how many can be reached by 24 inches of wire.
